Ingredients
  • 4 leftover Idlies
  • Butter to spread on idlies
  • 1 tablespoon of Pizza sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of Shredded cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of Sautéed sliced Mushroom
  • Few small pieces of Sautéed, chopped Capsicum

Step 1


Toasted Idli Sandwich


Preheat the sandwich toaster for 1 minute (I recommend Panasonic sandwich toaster).

Apply butter to rounded side of one idli. Pace it in the sandwich toaster, butter side down.

Spread a heaped teaspoon of sauce on the upper side of the idli.

Sprinkle with 1tablespoon of grated cheese.

Arrange few pieces of mushroom and capsicum over the sauce.

Step 2


Place another idli over the cheese, flat side down.

Spread the top side of the idli with butter.

Repeat with other two idlies, to make 2 sandwiches.

Toasted Idli Sandwich


Close the sandwich toaster and toast the sandwiches till golden brown. Serve hot.

Variations:
Any vegetarian or non –vegetarian curry with a thick gravy or the fillings used for stuffed parathas may be used. Shred the chicken meat, mutton pieces or fish pieces from the gravy to use as a filling.
Any tomato based sauce/ ketchup combined with sautéed vegetables, stir fried prawns, shredded cooked chicken or chopped boiled egg may be used for filling.
