A mix of three dals, rice, herbs and vegetables makes this tasty snack nutritious and different!

Ingredients
  • Rice 1 ½ cup
  • Split Bengal gram(chana dal) without husk ¼cup
  • Split Red gram (toor dal) without husk ¼ cup
  • Black gram (urad) without husk ¼ cup
  • Chilli powder ½-1teaspoon
  • Green chillies 2, finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  • Asafetida powder ¼ tsp
  • Grated coconut 3-4tablespoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to bush the waffle plates
Topping ingredients to choose from:
  • Grated carrots
  • Shredded palak
  • Finely chopped onion
  • Finely chopped tomato
  • Coriander leaves
  • Curry leaves

Step 1


Vegetable Adai Waffle


Wash and soak the rice and all the dals together for 2 hours.

Drain and reserve the water. Grind the soaked ingredients with some of the reserved water into a batter.

The batter can be slightly grainy in texture and a little thicker than dosa batter.

Step 2


Add all the ingredients from chilli powder to salt and mix well.

Brush the waffle plates with oil. Heat the waffle maker for 1 minute and pour the batter over it, to about ¼ cm thickness

Sprinkle with toppings of individual choice. Drizzle ½-1 teaspoon of oil over the topping.

Close the waffle maker and cook till done.

Most waffle makers come with an indicator light to let you know when the waffle is ready. (It takes about 2 ½-3minutes.)

Serve hot with butter or curds (plain yogurt) drizzled with honey if preferred.
